Festival Words – An Evening Of Poetry And Spoken Word

30th August 2016 - 7:30 pm

Erin is a poet and performer from Chapel Allerton who blends observation, exasperation and celebration into poems that are both witty and sincere. Erin is currently a resident artist at The Roundhouse in London and is a member of the Roundhouse Poetry Collective. She won the Glastonbury Festival Slam in 2014 and came 2nd in the Roundhouse Poetry Slam 2015.

Erin has performed at Lovebox, Glastonbury, the Royal Albert Hall, The Roundhouse, Cheltenham Literature Festival and gigs regularly around the country. Her work has been published in a United Press Anthology, presented at Box Park in Shoreditch and played on E4 for National Poetry Day.

At 27, Matt Abbott is a spoken word artist with a decade of experience under his belt: cutting his teeth at music gigs and political events, before establishing himself on the poetry circuit. His vernacular poems blend kitchen sink realism with socio-political commentary, through an accessible and engaging style to charm the cynics.

Matt co-founded A Firm Of Poets in 2013, and fronted indie act Skint & Demoralised.

“If you were seriously put off poetry at school, here’s the man that might just change your mind.” 5* Broadway Baby

“He delivers explosive poetry with style, heart & honesty.” 4* TVBomb

Newcastle based poet Scott Tyrrell is both the reigning BBC Slam Champion and the UK Anti-Slam Champion. He is also an award winning comedian and has been writing and performing since the turn of the century. Scott has performed around Europe and at many festivals including Edinburgh, WOMAD, The Big Chill, Kendall Calling and Glastonbury where he was blogger in residence in 2015.

He has written two collections of poetry. His most recent is ‘Grown Up’ published by Red Squirrel Press and has been very warmly received.

“Scott’s poetry is as funny as the finest stand up comedy with razor sharp punch lines that hit in just the right places. But it also has heart. Scott is one of the best live stand up poets in the country.” – Kate Fox
