Genet’s blackly comic play follows the winding paranoias and destructive power plays of two sisters, trapped between their love and hatred of their mistress and each other. Hedgepig Theatre’s dark production combines their trademark flair for storytelling with jarring movement work, live music, innovative visuals and striking design.
The Maids by Jean Genet is directed by Andy Curry. Costume design by Julia Smith – Lighting design by Kelli Zezulka – Music by Alexander King.

Hedgepig Theatre was founded by Director/Actor Andy Curry and Actress/Writer Gemma Sharp. They produce both work ranging from full scale theatre productions, promenade storytelling performances in country houses to intimate stripped-down pub theatre, and everything in between.
Recent previous productions, PLAYBOY OF THE WIDE WORLD – a complete Hedgepig rewrite of J.M Synge’s classic black comedy, and MISS JULIE – a new translation of Strindberg’s classic drama have toured Yorkshire to critical and audience acclaim.
Hedgepig works closely alongside a dedicated team of creatives, priding themselves on original costume, music composition, filmmaking and innovative lighting and set design that provide our productions with a unique and distinctive character and gives our audience a thrilling and rich experience – no matter the space.
