It’s taken some time to finally get Allison Russell & J T Nero to Seven, but we finally made it and they’ll be performing in full band format and will be bringing their recent releases American Flowers and Love in Wartime to play.
Birds of Chicago began in 2012 when Nero started writing for his vocal star-muse, Russell. Both were accomplished singer/songwriters with projects of their own, Nero with JT and the Clouds and Russell with the acclaimed Canadian roots outfit Po’ Girl, but together there was an unmistakable chemistry. A cross border band was born.
Music this raw and soul-rich demands to be experienced live, and Birds of Chicago have developed a fervent following, touring 200 nights a year. They have also been chosen by guest curator, the wonderful Rhiannon Giddens, to play her stage at Cambridge Folk Festival this year. Don’t miss your chance to see this travelling extravaganza of a band!
“When asked to write a few words about an artist deserving of wider attention, I had to choose Birds of Chicago. After hearing from a friend of mine for a while that I need to see them, I finally had the chance this summer, and from the first song, I understood.”
