We are pleased to welcome back to Seven The Kennedys for their 3rd visit.
Pete and Maura Kennedy, both East Coast natives, met in Austin, Texas, joined forces with Nanci Griffith’s Blue Moon Orchestra for a couple of years, and set out on a road that, for two decades, has led them not only west but all over the US and the UK many times.
Two decades on, The Kennedys are still hitting a songwriting high point, and from that point they follow the well-worn American path West. They have been prolific over that time and continued to play with Nanci Griffith. In 2014 they released a tribute album to Nanci and toured the UK with it. One of the dates was a show here at Seven to an almost full house.
In 2015 Maura released a solo album ‘Villanelle’, as did Pete with ‘Heart of Gotham’. Not content, they also released a duo album ‘West’ that sounds like the ‘Best of The Kennedys’, but in reality is an all new collection of songs that seamlessly weaves their influences over the last two decades; Buddy Holly style roots, the tuneful cadences of the Everly Brothers, and the ringing 12-string jangle of the early Byrds, interspersed with darker moments that recall British folk rock a la Fairport Convention.
Live they are exhilarating with Maura’s beautiful vocals driven by Pete’s sensational guitar style and virtuosity.
