SAA-uk and Red Violin Festival 2024 invite you to ‘Strings Together’ featuring two maestros of North and South Indian Violin, Kamalbir Singh and Vijay Venkat.
This is a unique evening of music that celebrates the violin, an instrument that is renowned across the world and has been adapted by each country to express rich vibrant stories.
Sri Kamalbir Singh and Sri Vijay Venkat are maestros of violin played in the South Asian style. Kamalbir Singh specialises in Hindustani (North Indian Music), while Vijay Venkat specialises in Carnatic (South Indian Music).
Audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy a pre-show talk that delves into the history behind the Indian Violin, its connections to the colonial past, all while gaining an awareness of the technical difference between European and Indian Violin playing.
The talk will be followed by an immersive evening of music, where the artists come together and share their specific music traditions that hail from the North and South of India. The performance will also exhibit exciting new work which celebrates the history of the violin and its connection between Europe and the composers Sir Baluswami Dikshitar from the 17th Century and Ludwig Beethoven who composed the 9th Symphony between 1822-1824.
Do join us to hear and feel the sounds and vibration of the violin, the world’s most popular instrument in association with Red Violin Festival 2024.
