Tears of the Black Tiger (Fa Thalai Chon, literally, “the heavens strike the thief”) is a melodramatic Thai Western. It’s the story of a tragic romance between Dum, a country-boy and fatalistic, working-class hero, who has become an outlaw, and Rumpoey, an upper-class city girl and daughter of a provincial governor.
Rumpoey and Dum meet as students in Bangkok, nine years after they first formed a tender childhood friendship. But Dum’s father is dying, having been attacked by a jealous bandit and, determined to avenge him, Dum joins a local gang and sets out to track down the bandit killer.
